Selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 4th round of the 1992 NFL Draft, Erickson played in 7 NFL seasons from 1992-1997 and 1999. His best year as a pro came during 1993 for the Buccaneers when he threw for over 3,000 yards and 18 touchdowns.

As the starting quarterback for BYU during the 1993 and 1994 seasons, Walsh left college as a junior to enter the NFL draft. He was selected in the 7th round by the Cincinnati Bengals.
