  • In August 2013, head coach of the Santa Barbara Dons, Doug Caines, had only good things to say about Peus in anticipation of the upcoming season. Speaking to local ABC affiliate station KEYT News Channel 3, Coach Caines said, "Brent's mind is a weapon. He absolutely is a student of the game. He understands how to read the defenses and make right decisions, time and time again."

  • The Santa Barbara News-Press also focused on Peus in its 2013 season preview. Before Peus's first start of the season, Head coach Doug Caines told the daily newspaper, "[Peus is] a brilliant student, he's a constant worker. Today after walk-throughs he was still doing handoffs. He's a consummate professional and he takes his job very seriously. That type of kid will always be successful."

  • The Dons' exciting come-from-behind win against Rio Mesa in 2013 was also attributed to Peus's consistent effort and clutch performance. The Santa Barbara News-Press covered the win:
"With Santa Barbara trailing 35-14 early in the fourth quarter, sophomore quarterback Brent Peus hit Jordan Guzman for a 79-yard touchdown pass. After the ensuing Rio Mesa drive stalled, the Spartans punter took a knee while fielding a low snap. Peus connected with Cunningham on a 34-yard pass that cut the deficit to 35-28. Trailing by just one score, Santa Barbara forced a three-and-out and the Rio Mesa punter took a knee again while fielding the snap to give Santa Barbara the ball at the Spartans’ 15-yard line. Peus finished off a three-play drive with a 1-yard run that tied the score at 35-35. After another Rio Mesa three-and-out, Santa Barbara got the ball back with just under three minutes remaining. Cunningham took a screen pass 40 yards for a touchdown and the Dons grabbed a 41-35 lead with 2:04 remaining. Canyon Gutierrez sealed the victory with an interception and Cunningham put on the finishing touches with a 25-yard touchdown run."
